I remember my first children’s ministry job. I was in my 20’s and couldn’t believe that I got paid to plan arts and crafts. My position was to manage all the volunteers, to train them and to manage all things preschool and younger. It was a dream and I’m grateful I had a boss who had experience and helped me to learn and grow.
As I navigated through different churches and states over the years, the one thing I missed, that could have made a difference in my church ministry demise –community. And not small groups, or more time on church campus events, but true connection with other people in children’s ministry… with people in the trenches with me.
It’s no surprise to me that statistics show that half of children’s ministry leaders don’t feel supported–but instead feel neglected. They feel overlooked and forgotten. (see the article below)
After almost 18 years in ministry, I was tired, burned out, and couldn’t remember why I was even in ministry in the first place. So I left it all behind. But we both know we can’t run from what God’s called us to.
Here I am, willing to enter back into church ministry, but this time I want to have connection and community. This is where Good Co. came from, this idea of creating space for ministry leaders to feel supported and cared for. To have access to training without having to pay for expensive conferences that are often not in the budget.
The Good Co. is starting with Children’s Ministry because I believe children’s ministry leaders need it the most. And within that framework, we are providing support for Inclusion Ministry. We want to create a table where everyone has a seat.
